Writing at desk
Got up late feeling very full of cold as well as very tired. Called on Dr Miller at 1 and by his advice went to see Panorama of Battle of Champigny by De Neuville and Detaille. Wonderfully realistic. In the afternoon walked down Champs Elysees to Hotel de Ville where we were turned back because the mounted Gendarmes were preventing anyone from assembling there and they looked bent on mischief. Selected us a cab and went to dinner at 7.30 at Dr. Miller's. Wrote to Fanny and told her to write to me at Rome. Gave Miller a tortoiseshell cigar case.
